Before arriving at the bar, you are asked to put your phone on SILENT and it is placed inside a little pocket bag where it is LOCKED closed, you hold onto your phone the entire time but access is not available unless you exit the show and have staff unlock the bag. And if the only bit of greatness is the constant conversations about the "experience" afterwards."Sleep No More" takes place in The McKittrick Hotel where there is a whole manner of events offered each and every evening. I wandered around for a few hours and just enjoyed it for a beautiful abandoned movie set while droves of tourists ran past me chasing a random actor. If it's suppose to be a story how can we all have a different experience? It would be like everyone going to see Titanic but the ship doesn't sink for everyone? It's seemed more like Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios but without people jumping out at you than theater. they at least got the second half of that correct. And when people kept telling me "oh you will love it and everyone has their own and different experience". I was told that it was the story of Macbeth. I can enjoy a dance scene for it's beauty but this was supposed to tell a story. OK first of all I LOVE experimental theater. The band afterwards on Saturday is amazing. But if you are up for a noir adventure- this is a fun, albeit pricey-date. Both players and guests! Attendees get so into it they will push you right out of the way to follow an actor or see a scene. There are tons of stairs so wear comfortable shoes you won’t trip in and be prepared for people to be very pushy. We started to string a few players together but I wouldn’t say we got any story out of it. But - I agree with many reviewers that the creativity has gone a tad too far in that you can not piece together any story. The dancers are super impressive and we loved many of the scenes. I was very upset that I was then shoved out on another floor and my husband and I spent 30 minutes looking for each other - while both trying to see the show, too! It’s pretty amazing we ever found each other. We wanted to go through the house together - this was our first date night in many many months and we wanted to be together to discuss it together after the show. Listen- I’m all for the encouragement to experience this on your own- but that should be MY choice. He shamed me in front of the whole elevator saying “you are your own person” the elevator closed with my husband watching me - and we went to another floor. When the doors opened the player motioned my husband out and then forcibly held me back. Once in the elevator, where you are herded in- there is NO talking. I was pushed into the room - literally - a player put his hands on me and shoved me to the back of the room. ![]() You are called in and immediately the staff is aggressive about the rules. A complimentary prosecco or the bartender’s punch can not possibly break the bank there! I enjoy everyone in character- part of the scene. This doesn’t even include a complimentary cocktail - and it’s hella expensive. It was nice to be ushered right in and have a table and a waitress. We also did the Maximillian’s guest tickets, based on what we read, because our schedule was tight and we didn’t want to wait in line. I can understand how these would be annoying if you weren’t prepared. We read ahead on some tips to not be caught off guard on all the rules - and there are a lot. ![]()
