![]() ![]() Many places will duplicate a key that states “do not duplicate”. The words “Do Not Duplicate” stamped on your key means very little. We can install high security locks into padlocks, deadbolts, levers, knobs, commercial aluminum style door locks and many other places. ![]() We will provide new cylinders and locks to maximize security and minimize costs. Some locks may need to be replaced and some may just need new cylinders. High security locks can be incorporated into most lock hardware. Most high security locks also incorporate restricted keys and special keyways to greatly reduce the number of places that can copy a key. Methods such as special sidebars, pick resistant pins and electronic cylinders are used to provide additional security. ![]() There are many different type of high security locks on the market that utilize different technology to secure a cylinder. The new keys get numbers starting at the last numbered keys you had made. When we cut you more keys we number each one and log them in our system. We will require ID and your signature to match the signature on your signature card. If you need keys copied you either call us out or stop in our shop to have them made. (Generally most companies hold the employees’ last check until the key is returned.) If the key is not returned a rekey may be required. You hand the keys out to your employees and require them to return them upon leaving the company. At any time you can request the number of keys you have out in your system. Once your locks are keyed we will cut the number of keys you request, number each one and then log them in our records. We key all the cylinders and can even set them up on a master key system if needed. We install a special cylinder in your locks that only accept the restricted keys that can only be cut by us. We set up a system specifically designed for you. As long as the key is returned, you know there are no copies and your building remains secure. This also prevents many companies from rekeying their locks every time an employee leaves. Keys can only be copied by us with proper identification and a signature controlled logging system. Most of these locks utilize a key that is controlled by one specific locksmith and also requires you to be on a signature card in order to have keys copied. If the thought of your keys running amuck in the streets gives you great pause, you may want to consider upgrading to a restricted system. They could have run to the local big box retailer’s key copying kiosk and could easily gain entrance to your facility. I can hear you now – “But Katie, when someone quits or is terminated, I always get the key back!”Īre you sure? Do you get all the keys that individual has? If you’re on an unrestricted system, you should always rekey your facility after a disgruntled employee quits or is terminated. In other words – anyone who has a key can make a copy. Though, if you’re in the business of key copying kiosks it would be great if you could add that security feature. There is nothing in the machine that recognizes those three little words (Do Not Duplicate) and asks you to fork over some authorization before proceeding. While these kiosks are great for making copies of personal keys, they pose a threat to companies that use unrestricted key systems. However, key copying kiosks entered the scene a few years ago, and as we all know, a machine doesn’t have an ethical compass. ![]() While the key stamping “Do Not Duplicate” does serve as a deterrent, it is by no means a security feature for your key system.Īny reputable locksmith or big box retailer would refuse to copy a key with this stamping without proper authorization. Here’s the scary part – you won’t have a clue that your facility’s security has been compromised.
